As the curtains close on our current exhibition, "Object: Vessel of Yasuhara Kimei," we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your unwavering enthusiasm and support. Thanks to you, our exhibition nearly sold out, underscoring the significance of paying homage and rediscovering the contributions of unsung masters like Yasuhara Kimei, who emerged in the post-war era.
This exhibition has transported me back to a culturally significant film, "Eternal Sunset at Third Chome" (Always 三丁目の夕日), a story set in an old Tokyo neighborhood in the aftermath of the war. It’s a tale where dreams, hopes, humanity, and inspiration flourished. It was in this environment that Yasuhara Kimei played a pivotal role in encouraging Yagi Toshiko, one of the few female artists who participated in the renowned Nitten exhibition during their time. Moreover, his collaboration with the Ikebana Sogetsu School served as a wellspring of inspiration for diverse and multimedia art forms to follow.
The fiction of a young boy portrayed in the movie has evolved into the reality of the 21st century. The movie still serves as a beacon of hope, a testament to our enduring dreams, aspirations, and our ceaseless quest for the beauty within humanity.
