The great-grandson of the famed Mingei potter, Kawai Kanjiro, Kawai Sota (b. 1973)'s works of art reflects the deep Kogei revival in Japan since the mid-20th century. He graduated from Kyoto Seika University with a BFA, and from the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramics Training School, before going on to build his own kiln in Shiga, Shigaraki. Kawai IV has had solo exhibitions across Japan including Matsuya, Hiroshima, and Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi.
