Born in 1937 in Karatsu, Japan, Nakazato Takashi is the fifth son of the famed Living National Treasure potter, Nakazato Toraemon 12th (Muan). He hails from a famous line of Karatsu potters: The Nakazato family. His brothers are also Karatsu potters, Nakazato Shigetoshi, both of whom bear the helm of the Nakazato line. They work at the Ryutagama kiln in Karatsu city, where his father, Muan originally built the kiln.
In 1961, he travelled to the US to work as an adjunct lecturer, and later traveled around the world. He later also built a kiln for Tanegashima ware in Nishino omote in 1971 on the advice of Koyama Fujio. Other than his celebrated Karatsu ware, he also makes Nanban ware (literally translated to "Southern Barbarian" style wares), white glaze and white porcelain wares, among others.
