Born in Akita prefecture in 1962, Osawa Tsuneo is a potter who is moved by the beauty of old Bizen ceramics. He selects and mixes his own soil and clay with his outstanding techniques of controlling fire. If one were to thematize his work, then his practice would be bound to elemental components: fire and earth.
Echoes of the fire from his wood-fired anagama kiln shows on his pieces where the flame has licked the surfaces of his ash covered functional wares. The textures of his clay show his sensitivity and discernment on the quality soil. The wheel-thrown form offers a great surface area to gaze upon the interplay between stoneware & fire.
