Like father like son, Tsujimura Kai (b. 1976) was born into a prominent clay family. He has grown to be a competent potter himself, not an easy task under such a shadow of his father, who was a giant in the pottery industry: Tsujimura Shiro. Kai's Iga Guinomi has iconic Iga clay color. His treatment of surface is thoughtful and sensitive. After having begun his solo career in 2001 after studying after his father, Kai's works have taken on a technically skilled, and pictorially sensitive take on Iga ware, white-slip kohiki, and the translucent slightly cloudy slip of Karatsu ware.
