This guinomi and pouring vessel set by Tanaka Kota 田中 孝太 (b. 1984) epitomizes 唐津焼 "Karatsu-yaki", or Karatsu ware, a style of pottery produced in the Saga prefecture which highlights an ash, feldspar, or iron glaze. Here, an ash glaze flows over a deep iron glaze. The foot is unglazed, here, you can clearly see the rich black iron that saturated earth from which the clay was harvested.
