Tanaka Masao was born in Mashiko in 1945, before moving to Shigaraki to study under Ogawa Seiho. He returned to build his own climbing kiln in 1975. This tea cup was made using wheel thrown techniques, and is faceted. Tanaka has decorated the clay body with an iron and white clay slip. In doing so, he has created a cohesive, and wholesome cup to use. His measured and level-headed style comes across with his balanced understanding of wabi-sabi aesthetics here. Hold it with both hands.
