This piece is crafted from distinctive Shigaraki clay and glazed in a beautiful matte white. Taking inspiration from nature, Koike's forms are based in the forms and shapes of seashells and flower petals such as the Tsubaki (Camellia flower).
This gorgeous piece blooms outward like a delicate flower. Born in Beijing to Japanese missionary parents, Koike Shoko (b. 1943) grew up in Japan and has become a highly sought after, leading ceramic artists in the competitive Japanese pottery scene.
