Unka-Mon Series 雲花文 云花文(1983-1995)
Although the elements of the patterns are different, they are initially pulled in the direction of the San-Mon 杉文 pattern, which I call the "Unka-Mon Sekki 雲花文妬器.” Suddenly, the Unka-Mon 雲花文 pattern turned out to have its own direction and became So-Unka-Mon 層雲花文. The latent potential that had been seeking expression was suddenly discovered and asserted itself when it encountered the peculiar black clay found in the Kasama area.
The white clay added a directionality to the up-and-down directionality of the So Un-Ka pattern, and the shape changed dramatically. I named it "Bun-Unka-Mon" (芒雲花文). As the word "芒" indicates, it represents the state in which an element extends in a certain direction and gradually fades away, but the directionality of the element is maintained. The change from 層雲花文 to 芒雲花文 pattern is a good example of how the form of a pattern can be greatly influenced by the elements added to the pattern.
Later, Unka-Mon 雲花文 was rewritten as 云花文. The motif was not originally intended to represent a specific cloud which is 雲 in Kanji character, but rather to express a state in which various elements are incorporated.
