Before World War II, Hayashi received training in Japanese painting. However, post-war, he developed a keen interest in avant-garde Western artists, particularly Pablo Picasso, whose techniques influenced his ceramic creations.
In crafting this piece, Hayashi employed a unique method for surface patterning. He masked specific areas and utilized a self-constructed atomizer to apply glaze onto the stoneware before firing.
