Furutani Michio was a celebrated potter with international and domestic accolades. He was selected for many exhibitions, including the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, the China-Japan International Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Shumei Bunka Foundation Award, and many more.

1946 Born in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture
1964 Graduated from the Ceramics Department of Konan High School in Shiga Prefecture
Entered the Kyoto Prefectural Potters Training Institute
Joined Uchida Craft Institute opened by Kunio Uchida
1968 Embarked on a trip around Japan (1 year and 9 months) to visit kiln sites
Japan while working part-time as a wheelwright
1970 Built his own anagama kiln in Kamiyama, Shigaraki
1971 Selected for the China International Ceramic Art Exhibition
Selected for the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition
1982 Awarded the Grand Prize at the Shigaraki Ceramic Art Exhibition
1985 Awarded the Grand Prize at the Seibu Ceramic Art Exhibition
1996 Awarded the Kinki Prize of the Japan Crafts Association Award
