Takeuchi Shingo 竹内真吾 b. 1955

Takeuchi was born in 1955 in Seto, in Aichi prefecture. He studied ceramic techniques in Aichi Kiln Training school, before graduating in 1979. He then went on to build his own kiln and studio in 1982. His pottery ideologies are rooted in inspirations from nature. Quoting:

“Respect and be in awe of nature, for life is part of it. You will be rewarded with great work if you keep your standards high.”

His works span both functional and sculptural categories. Lately, he has been focused on the art of flower vessels, interested in their surface decoration as well as how forms can complement surface design. His forms are curved and organic, while his decoration carries a sharper, geometric character. The idea of how “ki” or energy passes through a vessel is important to Takeuchi. His signature surface colors are red, blue, and teal.
