Born in 1937 in Karatsu, Japan, Nakazato Takashi is a celebrated ceramic artist who specializes in Karatsu ware. He is the fifth son of the famed Living National Treasure potter, Taroemon Nakazato. The Nakazato line has been carrying the tradition of Karatsu ware for centuries. Takashi’s works are strong, wholesome and powerful, showing his flair for Karatsu-Nanban, Tenmoku, and Persimmon glazes on his wheel thrown jars. He founded the kiln, Ryuta-gama in order to practice these techniques.
